We asked Bird & Bird what they were doing to support Pride; it was really great reading their response…

International law firm Bird & Bird strives to create and maintain an inclusive work environment in all our 29 offices where all of our people are seen as individuals and are each supported and encouraged to achieve, regardless of any difference. We know that employing a diverse group of people from different backgrounds is key to our future growth and ongoing success.

This year, Bird & Bird’s StandOut (LGBT) Network joined up with its Embrace (BAME) Network to create an ‘Embracing the Conversation’ podcast, which you can listen to here. They cover a range of topics, including the growing importance of diversity to clients, their experiences being LGBT in the workplace and the guests’ advice for young LGBT+ lawyers entering the profession.

In our London office, rainbow lights have been added to our reception for the month, to replicate the rainbow flag. Throughout the year, the firm also provides rainbow lanyards for employees and attendees of events.

Bird & Bird are members of the Stonewall charity group and regularly collaborate with them in terms of policy development. The firm also has a diversity and inclusion policy and all UK employees are trained in ‘Working with Respect’, an initiative which is aimed at supporting diversity and inclusion. The firm has bullying, harassment and whistleblowing policies and there are also transitioning guidelines and FAQs available on the intranet for all employees. The firm also has regular ‘lunch & learn’ sessions on LGBT topics, for example the most recent one ‘Trans 101’ was a talk given by Rachel Reese of Global Butterflies.
